Breast Augmentation

While many women are happy with the size, shape and appearance of their breasts, others are not. If you are one of these women, breast augmentation may be done to achieve fuller breasts or to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy.
A number of options are available with regard to implant style, shape, profile, and size. Ultimately, the implant size is based not only on a woman's desired result, but also upon measurements of the existing breast size, skin characteristics, and body type. Breast implant surgery is normally performed as an outpatient procedure, and general anesthesia is commonly used. Breast implants can be placed over or under the chest wall muscle, and there are three common incision sites: under the breast (inframammary), around the nipple (periareolar), or under the arm (transaxillary). Surgery usually lasts about one hour. Activity and exercise must be limited after surgery. Most women can resume their normal activities within four to six weeks after surgery.
